Acupuncture has been reported to be a form of medical treatment that has been around for 1,000’s of years. Is it good or bad.? Most of the research I have looked at, reports and news releases I have read over the years have had acupuncture showing only an upside. On further research there are some side effects that have been shown to happen which include a lowering of blood pressure, bruising, problems from the improper sterilization of needles to name a few.

The greatest benefit for acupuncture is reported to being the relief from Musculoskeletal pain (pain in the muscles or bones). Acupuncture is reported to aid in other diseases/discomforts from allergies to weight loss basically just about every thing reported the medical journals.

Here is an example of an acupuncture treatment as reported in Wikipedia:

An example of acupuncture treatment

In Western medicine, vascular headaches (the kind that are accompanied by throbbing veins in the temples) are typically treated with analgesics such as aspirin and/or by the use of agents such as niacin that dilate the affected blood vessels in the scalp, but in acupuncture a common treatment for such headaches is to stimulate the sensitive points that are located roughly in the centers of the webs between the thumbs and the palms of the patient’s hands, the hé gǔ points. These points are described by acupuncture theory as “targeting the face and head” and are considered to be the most important points when treating disorders affecting the face and head. The patient reclines, and the points on each hand are first sterilized with alcohol, and then thin, disposable needles are inserted to a depth of approximately 3–5 mm until a characteristic “twinge” is felt by the patient, often accompanied by a slight twitching of the area between the thumb and hand..

In the clinical practice of acupuncturists, patients frequently report one or more of certain kinds of sensation that are associated with this treatment:

Extreme sensitivity to pain at the points in the webs of the thumbs.

In bad headaches, a feeling of nausea that persists for roughly the same period as the stimulation being administered to the webs of the thumbs.

Simultaneous relief of the headache.[54]

Acupuncture should be considered as an alternative for a persons general health. Do your research and look into it, it just may help.

Is coffee good or bad for you? This is a debate my wife and I have had for years. I am a coffee drinker and she is not. She says it is unhealthy and I say not so. Who is right? Do not take what I say here as gospel. Please do your own research when making the ultimate choice but here are my thoughts.

Coffee in moderation is good for you. Some people say it is a super food as it possibly can reduce Heart disease, cirrhosis, Parkinson’s disease, dementia to name a few. It is also a well known for its help in reducing headaches and migraines. There is also some research done that it is filled with antioxidants that have benefits of reducing aging and other diseases.

Why do you want to stay away from coffee. It is addictive for one. Try to suggest to a coffee drinker that they should not have their morning cup for a couple of days. It is difficult to do as the body will go through withdrawals. Coffee is also known to increase heart rate, blood pressure and irregular heart beat. There are also studies that show that coffee consumption may increase LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol).

My wife does say I am a coffee addict. I really cannot argue this as I do need my morning coffee. But after that coffee and usually the second one I start to get fidgety which is an effect of the caffeine. Am I going to stop using coffee because of this. I have always believed that if a person got rid of everything unhealthy from their diet they would be not be able to eat or drink anything. For me drinking coffee in moderation is the key I just have to keep my consumption under 3 cups a day and then I will function properly.

Lots of arguments have been made if our home drinking water is safe or not. The experts over all believe our drinking water is safe because it is tested regularly. I am not here to argue this point. But as governments have to do cut backs in their spending to tackle deficits personal could be dropped from the inspection and testing of the water. It is not my intention to be an raise the alarm just presenting facts.

I do not drink tap water but distilled water because I just do not trust the chemicals and toxins that may be found in it. After drinking this type of water for the past couple of years, and then when I drink tap water I notice a big difference in taste because of the chemicals used to treat the water. The main chemical found in tap water is chlorine that is used to disinfect the water of harmful effects. But as different chemicals make there way through the food chain there are reports of hormones, antidepressants, painkillers to name a few that are being reported in the public water supplies. Did you know cocaine is showing up in some of the water supplies because of excessive use in any given area.

To have the best health we want the water that enters our bodies to be of the upmost purity and free of what ever trace elements may enter and possibly pollute our bodies. And no body knows for sure what the long term effects of these pollutants that are found in our water will be. And our municipal water systems are not designed to get rid of all the trace materials that are found in the water supplies today so we cannot feel confident of what is entering our bodies.

The best answer to how you can have safe drinking water in your home is to investigate the types of water purification systems out there and purchase one that is within your price range. It is important for you to do the research as all systems are not the same and some just do not do much of a job. You owe it to your body to fill it with the best water you are able to and become more healthy because of it.

Before starting the Asanas (as-anas) or the yogic postures, it is vital that you start with the practice of Pranayama (praa-na-yaa-ma) or the yogic breathing exercises. And what is Yogic Breathing (Pranayama) Pranayama is loosely translated as prana (pra-aana) or breathe control. Breathing affects our state of mind. It can make us excited or calm, tense or relaxed. It can make our thinking confused or clear. In the ancient yogic tradition, air is the primary source of life force, a psycho-physio-spiritual force that permeates the universe. Yogic breathing is used in yoga as a separate practice to help clear and cleanse the body and mind. It oxygenates the lungs by getting rid of enormous quantity of carbon dioxide and other toxic gases. It is also used in preparation for asana, the practice of yogic postures and meditation, to help maximize the benefits of the practice, and focus the mind.

Dr. Brodeur in his book Vitalism goes into great detail on how the use of stretches for flexibility can help most of use get control and health back into our lives. Here is an excerpt from his book Vitalism (which you can purchase by hitting the link on the side).

The Human body has been in development for over three billion years; it is a creation of ultimate intelligence, and it is the master of its domain. Its only flaw: its parts wear out.

Or do they?

I have seen the men and women who do not neglect the gift of life they have been given and the amazing lives they have achieved. I’ve also seen those who have neglected their gift and their lives, and the ruin they live in as a result.

It is an unfortunate fact that over nine thenths of us fall into the latter segment. This book is you invitation to the ranks of those who live the way we were designed to live.

You are about to learn the secrets to mastering your body’s strengths, flexibility, and energy. Only a few minutes a day can open your physique to its highest potentials. A physique that has been opened to its highest levels has not pain, and has no stiffness; it is lean, muscular, and energetic. This is the body we will be creating together, and I believe that creating this body will have a dramatic effect on the life that you live.

Even though this is part of the introduction to the book it says a lot. Really study this introduction and then study on how stretches for flexibility and the over all flexibility workout will increase your balance in your body and life. Yes there are exercises that have to be done but this is why the process works. Give the book a try today. Remember it has a no BS money back guarantee if you do not get benefits from these exercises.

Here is an article posted at www.mymorningsicknessremedies.com. There is a lot of good information available about morning sickness and while you are there sign up for the free mini-course.

Pregnancy Nausea within the First Few Weeks

It is unclear the exact cause of the nausea most pregnant women experience known as morning sickness. One theory is that vomiting and nausea in the first few weeks of pregnancy may be due to hormone changes produced by the placenta and the fetus. Changes in the gastrointestinal system may also play a role in morning sickness because the stomach empties more slowly under the influence of the hormones of pregnancy. Morning sickness affects about 70 percent of pregnant women. It usually begins at four to eight weeks of pregnancy and subsides by fourteen to sixteen weeks. Even though it is called “morning sickness” the vomiting and nausea in early pregnancy can occur at any time of the day.

But experts agree that it does play role within the pregnancy for one reason or another. Morning sickness is thought to protect the fetus. Contained in many plants are chemical toxins that protect the plant from being eaten. Adults have defenses against toxins such as these including extensive arrays of detoxification made by the liver and the surface of tissues of certain other organs. These defenses have not fully developed within the fetus. Even a small dose of plant toxins might have certain effects on the adult but might be lethal to the fetus. Pregnancy nausea causes the woman to become nauseated when exposed to the smell of taste of foods that are likely to contain toxins that might injure the fetus therefore protecting it.

Morning sickness may also protect the mother as well. The immune system of a pregnant woman is suppressed during pregnancy most likely to reduce the chances of rejecting tissues of her own offspring. Because of this, consuming animal products containing parasites or harmful bacteria can be especially dangerous to a pregnant woman.

Luckily, mild to moderate nausea and occasional vomiting associated with morning sickness won’t threaten your baby’s well-being. If a pregnant woman does not gain any weight in the first trimester, it generally is not a problem. As long as they are able to stay hydrated and aren’t starving, the fetus will remain healthy. In most cases, the pregnant woman’s appetite will return soon enough and they will start gaining weight.

Most women tolerate morning sickness pretty well. They have to make sure they are keeping themselves healthy and are letting their doctor’s know if there are any problems along the way. Young women who are experiencing their first pregnancies and women who are carrying twins or multiple fetuses might experience more morning sickness then others. Some women have nausea and vomiting beyond their first trimester and a few have it continually throughout their entire pregnancy. Pregnant women do need to be aware that severe or prolonged vomiting has been linked to a greater risk of preterm birth. It can also lead to low birth weight or newborns that are small for their gestational age. If a woman is having problems with morning sickness the doctor might prescribe anti-nausea medication to ward off dehydration and further pregnancy complications.

A panic attack is the sudden onset of intense anxiety, characterized by feelings of intense fear and apprehension and accompanied by heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, trembling plus several other symptoms. It is not understood what the cause of panic attacks is but several things could play a role including a combination of factors like biological and environmental.

Experts have looked at genetics for a possible cause for panic attacks in some people. In the same way that hair or eye color is passed down by one or both parents, a panic disorder has also been shown to run in families. It might be that a person is predisposed to having these attacks. Some panic attack sufferers have been shown to have a family member who has or had a panic disorder or some other emotional disorder like depression.

Another possible biological cause for panic attacks could be abnormalities in the brain. A panic disorder can be the result of certain changes in the way that parts of the brain function. Recent studies have suggested that panic attacks often co-occur with psychotic disorders like schizophrenia or post traumatic stress disorder. It is also possible that psychotic symptoms may lead to panic attacks. Psychotic episodes may precede or predict the onset of specific anxiety disorders as well like post traumatic stress disorder. Some research also suggests that your body’s natural fight-or-flight response to danger is involved in panic attacks. The bodies natural alarm system is a set of mental and physical mechanisms that allows a person to respond to a threat such as an accelerated heart rate and an increased breathing pattern. During a panic attack, these feelings are triggered unnecessarily when there is no danger. It is unknown why a panic attack occurs when there’s no obvious danger present.

Major life stress in some cases may be a cause of panic attacks as well. Stress may come in the form of a stressful event or a major life transition like the death or separation of a loved one. Some researchers have found that in these cases, when stresses lower your resistance, the underlying physical predisposition kicks in and may trigger an attack.

An environmental cause of panic attacks might be seen through an addiction. The intoxication or withdrawal of drugs or alcohol due to substance abuse can also possibly contribute to a panic disorder in an individual as well. Biological and environmental causes of a panic disorder might sometimes work together. Typically, attacks come out of the blue. But, eventually the sufferer might bring them on themselves by responding to physical symptoms associated with an attack. For example, if a person suffering from a panic disorder experiences a racing heartbeat caused by an outside source like taking a certain medication, they might interpret this as a symptom of an attack. They might bring on an attack because of their anxiety since a lot of the fear associated with an attack is fear of having another panic attack. Since the exact cause of panic disorders are not fully understood, it is important to seek treatment through several different forms of therapy.

After a little research it is apparent that nobody really knows where the saying that you need to drink 8 cups of water per day comes from. Some people trace it back to a study in the 1980’s, and other people claim that doctors starting telling people that amount because it was a good goal, but didn’t have any scientific research to back it up with.

Either way, the point is clear, water does wonders for your body, and your brain. Water is well known to cleanse your body of harmful chemicals through your intestines and also throughout your urine tract. Without proper water intake, our bodies break down very quickly, in a matter of days. Without food, however, some people can live for a week or two. That just shows how important water is to our bodies.

Here are 3 quick tips for taking in more water.

1. Always have water available.

I like to buy the 12 ounce bottles of water and keep them in the fridge. Whenever I go to the gym I grab a bottle. On my way out the door to work, I grab a bottle. Before a trip that will be 30 minutes or longer, I grab a bottle. When I watch a movie, I grab a bottle.

Whenever I am sitting watching TV or a movie, I will keep the bottle in my hand with the lid off. I take a lot of little sips until the bottle is gone. A great way of making sure you drink more water is to make sure it is easily accessible.

2. Keep it cold.

I don’t know many people who like to drink room temperature water, I sure don’t. If you keep your water cold, you will drink more. I make sure there is always ice in my freezer, this make it very easy to have a cold glass of water anytime.

3. Chose water in restaurants.

Whenever I go out to eat, I always drink water with some lemon. The lemon adds a little spunk to the taste and the water is always nice, cold and refreshing. After a short time you will stop craving your old drink of choice and will begin to appreciate the taste, or lack of taste, that water provides.

Give water a shot and your body will be thankful!

After a little research it is apparent that nobody really knows where the saying that you need to drink 8 cups of water per day comes from. Some people trace it back to a study in the 1980’s, and other people claim that doctors starting telling people that amount because it was a good goal, but didn’t have any scientific research to back it up with.

In modern society people are more concerned with their body weight than ever before. But is it any wonder why we have these concerns?

We have more processed and fast foods available to us than ever before. In this modern era everything needs to be convenient, and that includes our meals. More and more people turn to ready meals, pre prepared foods and fast foods rather than what we used to do many years ago, cook a meal using fresh ingredients. Obviously manufacturers are cashing in on this trend and giving us more choice than ever of convenience meals. These meals are full of fat and useless calories and play a large part in the overall scheme of obesity.

Another factor is beauty magazines and waif like celebrities. Woman (and men) find themselves under extreme pressure to conform to the standard that we see in the glossy pages of magazines. Eating disorders are more prevalent than ever before in the developed countries. Anorexia and Bulimia are the most prevalent eating disorders in teenaged and young adult females.

Also having an impact on our weight is the advancement in technology, cars, public transport and maybe not as obvious ñ the internet. With the age of the internet more and more people are working from home so some lifestyles are even more sedentary nowadays as some workers do not even have to leave their house to conduct their working day, it can all be done in the comfort of their own home.

So all in all the odds are stacked against us, the only way to overcome bodyweight issues is to take matters into your own hands. Take more time to prepare meals with fresh produce, remember that the models in glossy magazines have been airbrushed to within an inch of their lives, and of course take some time out to get some exercise.
